Statutory and Voluntary Agencies

Statutory Agencies


Statutory agencies are responsible for upholding the law and looking after the community that they serve, they do this everyday and it is their job. Examples of statutory agencies:


  • Local authorities
  • Police
  • Fire Service
  • Ambulance and health services
  • Highways agencies
  • HM Coroner
  • The Environmental Agency
Along with others these services are legally obliged to provide their service to the community in which they work.

Voluntary Agencies

Voluntary agencies are groups that do not get paid to serve their community but they do it anyway. Voluntary agencies could possibly assist in a major incident, also they would more than likely care for people that are affected by the incident afterwards. Some voluntary agencies:
  • St John Ambulance
  • CRUSE bereavement care
  • The British Red Cross
  • Samaritans
  • Victim Support
