- Co-ordinating other services on scene (local authorities, mandatory services, voluntary services etc.)
- To secure the scene and preserve evidence
- Setting up cordons
- Investigating the scene and securing evidence in co-operation with specialist units like SOCO (scene of crime officers)
- Collecting information on persons involved
- Identification of any fatalities on behalf of HM Coroner
- Preventing crime (looting, vandalism on scene etc.)
- Providing family liaison officers
- Implementing short-term measures in order to return area to normality
Roles and responsibilities of the ambulance service attending an emergency service incident:
- Stabilise the condition and care for any persons injured at the scene
- Preservation of life
- Transporting the injured quickly and safely to hospital
- Warning the hospital of expected time of arrival and informing on the equipment needed
